Our New Fiberon Composite Deck - Fiberon IPE with a Rosewood Border

I'm back!  We have been in our house for almost a year now and have been enjoying it.  We finally decided between a deck and a patio.  We came up with a plan that would allow for both.  We have a composite deck that is under construction right now.  We were going to go with a "grill bump out", but I changed my mind while it was under construction and had an octagon added to the corner.  After looking at many pictures on Google's image search and Pinterest, I found a few screened-in gazebos that i liked.  I gave the pictures to my contractor and he did an excellent job replicating them.  He used Fiberon composite decking in IPE with a Rosewood border and Horizon Railing with black round metal balusters.  It should be completed by next week.  We plan on adding a patio in front of the basement walk out and a walkway to the garage next summer.  Here's a sneak peak at our deck and screened-in gazebo...

  2. That deck is amazing!

We got a little 10x12 deck as one of our incentives, which is nice... but I really want to make the deck bigger and a little more functional.

  4. your deck is MASSSIVVEEEE!!! looks very nice, what a great design. Since we dont have a walk out basement our deck will be one level which eventually will include a small patio area. great job!

  5. HEY MARIA!!!!! SO NICE TO SEE YOU!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR DECK! IT DEFINITELY PUTS THE FINAL TOUCH ON YOUR HOME!

BTW-The handles/pulls for the cabinets!!! Ugghhhh I have been searching for the handles to be the same shape as the fridge, microwave, dishwasher and double ovens. Guess what we found them the other day at Home Depot. They, literally, are the same shape. I just wish they were a bit thicker. My husband screwed three of them in and I may have to stick with them because of the length. They are not too badddd!! I intend to look at them for the rest of week while I search for others. I think they may be 5 inches in length.

  10. Maria,
Do you plan on doing anything underneath your deck, or just leaving the grass as is? We have started thinking what we should do, like maybe put down some fabric covered with stones or something, not sure.
    Thanks, Mike

    1. We do not have a walk out basement, so it makes it a little difficult to do anything under there. We could do something on the outskirts, because the grade of the yard goes down. Our contractor said we should put in a tiki bar on the corner (under the gazebo) where we are eventually going to install a patio. You could put in a really nice screened in patio under your deck with a ceiling fan. I have a picture of a patio that my contract installed under another deck that he built.

    2. I want to plant some bushes around it. Our contractor put screen under the gazebo and the right side of the deck to prevent the bugs from coming up. We are going to have the gazebo screened in. We were going to have the right side of the deck screened in, so he put screen down under the floor. We decided against it and had the gazebo added (not part of the original plan!).

    3. Love your blog! Wanting to build with Ryan in the future. Any chance you could share your options price list? I am sure it is large but would love to see it so I know where to even begin with what will be offered. Ryan is reluctant to give me anything at this point as we aren't planning on building for another year or so. If so, my email is patsy1015@yahoo.com

    4. My prices are listed on the "Options" page. They are probably outdated at this point.
