Wood Floor Options - Colors?

We're going to have Bruce hardwood floors in our foyer, dining room, living room, office and family room.  That's quite a bit, so I want to love the wood floor color!  The only problem is that I am not in love with any of my options, so I have the pick the best out the the 3 following wood floor choices.  As you see, our current floors are similar to the Gunstock option.  I really liked the Cherry floors, but they are a little dark.  I didn't like the Saddle (brown) option, but the brown does not look so bad in the pictures.  I'm trying to stay away from Gunstock, because it is basically the same color as our current hardwood floors that we have had for 9 years.  Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Clockwise, starting with the left: Saddle (brown), Gunstock (yellow) and Cherry (red)

  1. We picked Saddle but ours doesn't look as brown as the one in your picture. Check it out here under my selections: http://buildingouryorkshire.blogspot.com/p/our-selections.html

    1. I just checked your pictures. I wonder why my sample is different. I hope you had an easier time picking colors than I am!

    2. I didn't. It was hard. I think I will second-guess my choices up until the day I can see them in my new home. It's a huge commitment!

  2. We have the Cherry floors in our Avalon and they do look great. We didn't have too much trouble with the colors for all our flooring...granite, siding, and brick colors is a different story....but I must say we LOVE all our selections. We were somewhat lucky in that the Avalon model home we visited had the floor color, cabinet choice, and granite in the kitchen so we were able to see it full size. Once we had those the rest of the flooring and carpet was not too hard. Also, remember that your oak stairs will be stained to match your hardwood floors.

    1. It would make it a lot easier if we were able to see a model in person with all of the colors that we like.

  3. Choosing the hardwood flooring was the most difficult decision we made. First we were going to get laminate, and we found one we both loved. Then my husband decided we were getting hardwoods. Back to Rite Rug. My husband immediately nixed the cherry that's everywhere. It's in the model, it's in the other model, it's in a ton of the houses. I wanted the deep chocolate colored hand scraped hardwoods. My husband wanted the ones that looked like a gym floor. I was shockingly appalled! He said the ones I loved reminded him of a terrible course he was forced to take in law school. We ended up settled on 'the worst of all evils'. Neither of us was in love with our choice, but neither of us hated it. And at least one of us hated each of the others. I was kind of afraid it would be too orange.

When the painter was in he was remarking about our choices and how great they were going to look. He said we had chosen the perfect flooring color to compliment our cabinets, etc. I have to admit I was relieved. Now that it's all done I can't imagine any other color in our house. It's really warm and rich and inviting without being too dark.

There are more Ryan Homes blogs all the time, with tons of pictures. I think it helps a lot to see the combos and how they work together. I have to say - some people have done stuff I didn't think I would like and when it came together it was gorgeous! Get as much help as you need making these choices. Our girl at Rite Rug had a design degree, so she was quite helpful.

    1. Hi Tammi,
It is hard for me to find a model around here with cherry. On the other hand, there are quite a few models with the deep chocolate hand scarped hardwood floors. Which hardwood floors did you end up choosing?

  4. We ended up with the Maple hardwoods in Cinnamon. They are the perfect compliment to the Butterscotch glaze cabinets I love. We couldn't be happier. We aren't the only ones in love with them - everyone is dazzled by them.

You can see a ton of pictures on my blog: http://ifyoucouldseewhatisee.blogspot.com/search/label/House
