The Beginning Stages - The Options are Adding Up!

I scribbled all over the floorplans for the Avalon in the beginning stages of our search for the perfect home.  We knew what we wanted, but it was adding up quickly (and is till adding up!)!  I carried this floorplan around with me for months as we went back and forth between layouts and options.  This paper floorplan ended up falling apart from being opened and closed so many times!

I learned recently that the option prices vary from region to region.  After reading many of the other Ryan Homeowner blogs, it looks like our options are at the high end compared to other areas.  How do some of these prices compare to the prices in your Ryan Homes' region?

  1. Thanks for sharing. This is fascinating. We're building a Waverly in Pa., so it's not an apples to apples comparison but from the RH website square footage is similar. I wouldn't say that your options are sky high compared to ours. But rather some things are way more and some things are way less.

Our upgrade to the luxury suite (similar layout) was less than half of what you have listed. On the other hand, our morning room was not included (to a tune of $19k). The smaller things all seemed to be either a little higher or a little lower than what you've got listed.

I think what you have to ask yourself at the end of the day is if you are getting the house you want, and if the price per square foot is reasonable for your area.

  2. I agree with WJ...I compared your prices to what we paid last year and they are all in the ballpark...some higher some lower. As you can see from our blog our layout/configuration is similar to yours. We selected a large number of options as well as added about 2 dozen custom ones of our own. We were surprised that the pricing on the custom ones was pretty reasonable. Here's a tip you might not have uncovered...since I think you will end up with 5 bathrooms as well, the price on the options sheet for adding granite to your secondary bathrooms is a fixed price for all of them...not a per vanity price...we almost missed that one...our Sales Rep pointed that out when my wife asked to do the one on the first floor. With 5 bathrooms it's a good deal.

  3. Wow, 2 dozen custom options... they would never go for that here! I hope they come back with a reasonable price for the kitchen cabinets that I requested. I didn't know that about the granite in the secondary bathrooms, but I was told that it applied to the vanites. That is a good deal! Please keep your comments coming. They are very much appreciated.
